Nancy Kanwisher, the Walter A. Rosenblith Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences (BCS), has been chosen by the postdocs of the Brain and Cognitive Sciences Community at MIT as the winner of the 2015 Outstanding Postdoc Mentor Award.

The Brain and Cognitive Sciences Community's postdoc committee established this award to recognize excellence in mentoring and to raise awareness of the essential role that mentors play in the career development of postdocs.

This is the first time that the postdocs in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences Community — which includes the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, the McGovern Institute for Brain Research, and the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory — have recognized an outstanding mentor. Kanwisher was nominated by several postdocs, who consider her to be a phenomenal mentor.

The five postdocs who evaluated all nominations said that the selection process was a positive experience, and the nomination statements were inspiring. Mentorship is extremely valued by BCS postdocs, who look forward to recognizing other excellent mentors in the future.
