Stanley Center & Poitras Center Joint Translational Neuroscience Seminar
Description
"Translating the Neuroscience of Fear: from Mice to Men to PTSD"
In recent years there have been rapid advances in the neurogenetic approaches used to examine a wide array of CNS disorders. I will examine a variety of current state-of-the-art approaches to understanding the intersection of neurobiology and genetic mechanisms which contribute to vulnerability to fear-related disorders such as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I will explore examples of current findings in PTSD, including the status of the current PGC-GWAS for PTSD initiative, genes involved in stress neurobiology, as well as gene x environment approaches. I will also discuss convergent neuroscience and genomic methods in mouse models of fear, which take advantage of our increasingly advanced understanding of the neural circuitry of fear processing.
