How to Apply
Eligibility
Graduate student selection is based primarily upon evidence of research interest and potential for work within the areas represented in the department. Candidates may have undergraduate concentrations in a variety of fields, but regardless of undergraduate major, applicants are expected to have outstanding records, particularly in mathematics and the sciences.
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical test scores are required with the application; GRE subject tests are not required.
International students whose primary language is not English are required to take the IELTS (preferred) or TOEFL exam.

You can apply online here. You are welcome to download an application form for reference (please click here), however paper or emailed applications will not be accepted.
Completed applications must be received no later than December 10 for admission the following September. Please send transcripts, test scores, or letters of recommendation not submitted electronically to the address listed below. Since GRE scores are required, applicants should take the exams early enough so the scores will reach MIT before the December 10 deadline. Applicants should enter either 0213 (Neurosciences) or 2002 (Cognitive Psychology) as their GRE reporting code. A delay in receipt of GRE scores will cause a delay in the consideration of applications. The Graduate Admissions Committee of the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences reviews all applications. Candidates who are under serious consideration may be invited to visit the department. The committee usually makes admission decisions by April 1. New students enter the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences in the fall term only. Deferral of admission to a later year is not permitted.
